NEW JERSEY — ShopRite stores across New Jersey played a major role in raising more than $1.34 million during the annual ShopRite Partners In Caring Cheerios Contest, a regional campaign supporting hunger-relief efforts.

The fundraiser, sponsored by General Mills, recognizes top-performing ShopRite stores and associates for their efforts to combat food insecurity through community fundraising and awareness campaigns.

This year, ShopRite and General Mills honored 55 stores across New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania and Connecticut during a series of celebrations that concluded this week. Associates from winning stores were featured on limited-edition Cheerios cereal boxes as part of the annual tradition.

“The Cheerios Contest is a ShopRite Partners In Caring tradition that celebrates the incredible dedication of our store teams and family-owned ShopRite stores,” said Alexandra Emery, manager of Sustainability and Corporate Social Responsibility for ShopRite. “Wakefern Member Families and their associates give back here because they are part of the community and they know the importance of supporting food banks and pantries to ensure families have access to the nutritious food they need.”

According to organizers, 120 associates from recognized stores were honored this year through commemorative Cheerios boxes and in-store events themed “We Give Back Here.”

Each September during Hunger Action Month, ShopRite associates organize fundraising efforts through checkout donations, promotions and community events benefiting local food banks and pantries.
