Authorities seek urgent help for 30 cats rescued from hoarding situation in Morris County

MOUNT. ARLINGTON BOROUGH, N.J. (Morris County) — Animal control officials in Mt. Arlington are urgently seeking help from rescue organizations and foster families after removing 30 cats from a hoarding situation, according to the Hopatcong Animal Shelter.

The cats, described as friendly and in need of safe temporary housing, were rescued this week but cannot remain in boarding facilities, which are now filled to capacity. Officials said two of the cats have special needs related to vision impairment.

“Mt. Arlington Animal Control is facing an emergency — 30 cats are in a hoarding situation and need to be rescued ASAP,” the shelter said in a statement. “Their boarding facility is full to the max. These cats desperately need help from rescues and fosters right now. They are friendly and just need a safe, clean place to go.”

The Hopatcong Animal Shelter is urging rescue groups, foster volunteers, and members of the public who can help to contact them immediately. “Every spot counts and could save a life,” the shelter said.

Anyone able to assist is encouraged to message the shelter on Facebook or call 973-601-3847.
