Bill to allow preserved farms to host special occasions passes Senate
NEW JERSEY – Bipartisan legislation sponsored by Senator Joe Pennacchio (R-26) that seeks to give preserved farms more flexibility in hosting special occasion events, while still prioritizing agricultural use of the land, passed the New Jersey Senate.
Under the proposed legislation, farms would be permitted to use recently constructed permanent structures for special events as long as the total event revenues in a calendar year does not exceed 10% of the farm’s total revenue.
“Farmers should have the opportunity to generate additional income from their property, especially when it’s done in a way that does not jeopardize the primary use of the land for agriculture,” said Pennacchio. “This bill strikes the right balance between supporting our farmers and protecting the integrity of preserved farmland.”
