Black River & Western Railroad showcases rail improvements that will expand agritourism In Hunterdon County
FLEMINGTON BOROUGH, NJ (Hunterdon County) – Hunterdon Commissioner Director Jeff Kuhl and Deputy Director Susan Soloway, along with several representatives from Flemington Borough businesses, attended a special train ride hosted by the Black River & Western Railroad last week.
The event showcased a privately funded capital improvement project currently underway to establish a vital link from Flemington Borough to agritourism destinations in the county via the railroad.
The day began with a walking tour, followed by a train ride that departed from Stangl Station and journeyed to Pumpkin Junction at Everitt’s Farm in Ringoes, offering guests a unique experience of Hunterdon County’s scenic beauty and agricultural heritage.
“Hunterdon County’s rich agricultural history is the cornerstone of the community and a vital part of our local economy. The rail improvements from this project will create opportunities to connect the Borough’s commercial district directly with agritourism initiatives that not only support our local farmers but also provide unique experiences for residents and visitors alike,” Kuhl said.
The Black River & Western Railroad, known for its dedication to preserving railroad history and providing memorable experiences, continues to be a keystone of local tourism. The VIP train ride event aimed to foster connections with attendees and highlight the importance of collaboration in promoting the region’s unique attractions while supporting agriculture and local businesses.
“This capital improvement project is part of a broader strategy to enhance the visibility of the county’s agricultural assets. This train ride was a fun way to explore the agritourism initiatives and economic opportunities available in Hunterdon County for local businesses and farmers,” Soloway said.
