Congressman Kean visits freight train derailment in Linden

LINDEN, NJ (Union County) – Congressman Tom Kean, Jr. (NJ-07) and Linden Mayor Derek Armstead Friday met with leaders from Conrail on Tremley Point Road, in response to the train derailment incident that occurred Thursday.

Within 24 hours of the incident, Congressman Kean organized and executed a meeting with leaders from Conrail and the Mayor of Linden to discuss how they can stop events like this happening again.

“It is key that all levels of government, private sector, and rail operation professionals all work together in times like this,” Kean said. “I am thankful that we were able to meet on site today to see the results from this incident and to discuss how to handle a similar situation moving forward. We are continuously monitoring the situation and grateful there were no injuries or spills involved in this incident.”

“When you live in an industrial town, accidents do occur,” Armstead said. “But on the other side of the coin, I’m very happy with the coordination and efforts that were made to ensure the safety of the residents, and ensure the safety of the industrial area.”
