No injuries reported after vehicle fire in Sussex County

HAMPTON TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Sussex County) — A vehicle fire spread into a nearby wooded area Tuesday afternoon in Hampton Township, prompting a multi-agency response, authorities said.

Emergency crews were dispatched around 2:15 p.m. to Mary Jones Road after a report of a vehicle fully engulfed in flames.

Firefighters from Hampton, Stillwater and Fredon responded along with the New Jersey State Police and the New Jersey Forest Fire Service. Upon arrival, crews found the vehicle fully involved, with flames extending into the surrounding wood line.

Firefighters deployed a water supply line and attacked the fire with hand lines, working to contain both the vehicle blaze and the spreading brush fire. Officials said a ruptured fuel tank complicated suppression efforts, as the fire was fueled by leaking gasoline and difficult to access in tight spaces.

Crews remained on scene for more than two hours before bringing the fire under control.

No injuries were reported. The scene was turned over to the New Jersey State Police for further investigation.
