Route 22 ramp to I-78 westbound to close next week for paving in Warren County
WARREN COUNTY, N.J. — The Route 22 eastbound ramp to Interstate 78 westbound is scheduled to be closed and detoured beginning Monday, July 28, as a resurfacing and intersection improvement project continues across several Warren County municipalities, including Phillipsburg, Lopatcong, Pohatcong, and Greenwich.
The full closure of the ramp to I-78 westbound in Pohatcong is expected to last until 9 a.m. Friday, August 1, to allow for milling and paving of the adjacent ramp’s right lane. A detour will be posted for affected motorists.
Additionally, the right lane of the Route 22 eastbound ramp to I-78 eastbound will also be closed during the same period for milling and paving. At least one lane will remain open to traffic. Drivers are advised to reduce speed, exercise caution, and expect delays while traveling through the construction zone.
Commercial vehicles wider than 11 feet will not be permitted to use the Route 22 eastbound ramp to I-78 eastbound and will be detoured. Truck drivers are encouraged to follow posted detour signs or consider alternate routes.
The work is part of a $10 million Route 22 resurfacing and intersection improvement project, which includes five miles of paving from Miller Street in Phillipsburg to the I-78 interchange. In addition to ramp resurfacing, the project includes upgrades to traffic signals at seven intersections:
- Route 22 and New Brunswick Avenue
- Route 22 and Greenwich Street
- Route 22 and St. James Avenue/Uniontown Road/County Route 519
- Route 22 and Phillipsburg Mall
- Route 22 and 1st Street
- Route 22 and Roseberry Street
- Route 22 and Ingersoll Avenue/Bates Street
NJDOT advises that construction schedules may change due to weather or unforeseen circumstances.
