Blairstown detective, NJSP, and EMS member save life of choking victim using de-choking device

BLAIRSTOWN TOWNSHIP, NJ (Warren County) – A Blairstown police detective, NJSP, and EMS member successfully saved the life of a choking victim using a de-choking device, according to authorities.

On November 24, around 7:30 p.m., Detective Beach responded to a call for help alongside the New Jersey State Police (NJSP) at a residence on Millbrook Road in Blairstown Township. The emergency involved a 75-year-old man who was choking on pork and rice and turning blue.

Upon arrival, Det. Beach, assisted by NJSP and a member of the Blairstown Ambulance Corps, used a de-choking device to remove a large piece of pork lodged in the patient’s throat. Det. Beach then manually cleared the remaining obstruction, allowing the patient to breathe again.

The Blairstown Ambulance Corps arrived shortly after, and patient care was transferred to their team.
