Boil water advisory remains in effect after water main break in Allamuchy Township
ALLAMUCHY TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Warren County) — A boil water advisory remains in effect for Allamuchy Township after a water main break Thursday morning at Alphano Road and Freeborn Lane left many residents without water service, according to township officials.
The Allamuchy Water and Sewer Department reported Thursday afternoon that water service was being restored throughout the township. However, officials said that as a precautionary measure, residents must continue to boil their water until testing confirms it is safe to drink — which may not occur until Saturday afternoon, according to the Allamuchy Township Office of Emergency Management (OEM).
“All customers within the impacted service area are instructed to bring tap water to a rolling boil for one minute and allow it to cool before use or use bottled water,” the township said in its notice.
Residents are advised to use boiled or bottled water for drinking, cooking, brushing teeth, preparing food or baby formula, washing fruits and vegetables, and washing dishes until further notice.
Officials also urged residents to:
- Discard any uncooked food or ice made with tap water on the day of the advisory.
- Keep boiled water refrigerated for drinking.
- Avoid swallowing water while showering or bathing.
- Rinse hand-washed dishes with a diluted bleach solution (one tablespoon of bleach per gallon of water) or use a dishwasher on the hot wash and dry cycle.
- Avoid relying on home water filters as substitutes for boiling.
- Provide pets only with boiled and cooled water.
