Budd Lake Beach reopening July 13

MOUNT OLIVE TOWNSHIP, NJ (Morris County) – Budd Lake Beach Park is set to reopen on Saturday, July 13 at 10:00 a.m., but with important safety considerations, according to Mount Olive Township Administrator Andrew Tatarenko.

“It’s essential to understand that the park currently operates as a ‘non-bathing beach,’ meaning it’s not designated as a ‘public recreational bathing facility’ under New Jersey law. This classification exempts the park from the requirements of N.J.A.C. 8:26-1, which governs public bathing areas,” Tatarenko said.

Lifeguards are not present, water quality is not monitored daily for bacterial contamination, swimming areas are not designated, and submerged hazards may exist. Swimming is strictly prohibited within Budd Lake Beach Park, and enforcement will be in place, Tatarenko said.

“This decision is made with the safety of visitors in mind, as the park currently lacks the infrastructure and oversight of a public bathing beach,” Tatarenko said.

The park will be open daily from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

“Looking ahead, the Township’s intention is to redevelop the park in the future, aiming to re-classify it as a ‘public recreational bathing beach’ with the necessary safety measures in place,” Tatarenko said. “Until then, visitors are advised to refrain from swimming and enjoy the park’s amenities responsibly.”
