Bye bye winter: Sussex County groundhog predicts an early spring

WANTAGE TOWNSHIP, NJ (Sussex County) – Sussex County’s resident groundhog, Stonewall Jackson, emerged from his winter hideaway on Sunday to predict either an early spring or six more weeks of winter.

Stonewall, based at the Space Farms Zoo & Museum, did not see his shadow and predicts an early spring.

Several other groundhogs from around the region also ventured outside to search for their shadows and here are the results:

  • Lady Edwina of Essex County, New Jersey predicted an early spring.
  • Punxsutawney Phil from Pennsylvania predicted six more weeks of winter.
  • Staten Island Chuck from New York predicted an early spring.
  • Holtsville Hal from Long Island, New York predicted six more weeks of winter.
  • Malverne Mel from Long Island, New York predicted six more weeks of winter
