Fire damages Hunterdon County home on New Year’s Day

RARITAN TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Hunterdon County) — Firefighters responded to an attached garage fire at a residence on Thatchers Hill Road just after the start of the New Year, according to the Raritan Township Fire Company.

In a post shared by the fire company, officials said first-arriving crews encountered heavy fire conditions originating in the garage that had extended into the home. Firefighters worked quickly to bring the blaze under control and limit damage to the remainder of the structure.

Raritan Township firefighters were assisted by multiple mutual aid agencies from across Hunterdon County. Crews operated in subfreezing temperatures during the response, officials said.

No injuries were reported.

The fire company thanked its mutual aid partners and dispatchers for their assistance and teamwork during the incident. Officials also reminded residents of the importance of fire safety.

“This fire serves as an important reminder of how quickly fires can spread—please ensure working smoke alarms are installed and maintained in your home,” the department said.

The cause of the fire was not immediately released.
