CARE Center of NJ distributes 2,500 Thanksgiving food boxes to families in need
ROCKAWAY, N.J. (Morris County) — The CARE Center of New Jersey distributed 2,500 Thanksgiving food boxes over the weekend as part of its annual Food for HOPE™ holiday program — an effort the organization says is among the largest Thanksgiving food distributions in the state.
The event was held at the CARE Center’s Rockaway headquarters and at Montclair High School, where families received boxes filled with meat, fresh vegetables and other items for their holiday meals. In total, more than 100,000 pounds of food were provided.
The distribution was made possible through support from Christ Church, the CARE Center’s sister ministry, local volunteers and a grant from the State of New Jersey.
Daily demand at the organization’s Food for HOPE pantry has climbed sharply in recent weeks, with as many as twice the usual number of families seeking assistance.
“With the cost of food remaining so high, many New Jersey families continue to struggle to put healthy foods on the table,” said David Ireland, founder. “Thanks to the generosity of everyday New Jersey residents who have contributed, and the State of New Jersey, The CARE Center is now able to help more families this year. However, the need will exist beyond the Thanksgiving holiday, and we ask that businesses or individuals reach out to us if they can help.”
