PISCATAWAY, N.J. (Middlesex County) — Centenary University recognized 20 Educational Opportunity Program scholars honored during a statewide celebration recognizing academic achievement and student success across New Jersey colleges and universities.
The ceremony, hosted April 17 at Jersey Mike’s Arena at Rutgers University in Piscataway, brought together more than 1,900 Educational Opportunity Fund students from institutions throughout the state, according to Centenary University.
University officials said the event, organized through the state’s Office of the Secretary of Higher Education and Department of Education, celebrated students for academic excellence, perseverance and leadership.
Centenary said 12 students attended the event to represent the university community. Students received certificates and commemorative stoles during the recognition ceremony.
The university honored students in three categories: Outstanding Academic Achievement Award, Academic Achievement Award and Graduating Scholar Award.
“Centenary’s EOP scholars continue to embody the mission of the program: to expand access to higher education while providing the support and resources necessary for student success,” the university said in a statement.
Recipients of the Academic Achievement Award were Albulena Ceku, Nehemiah Cintron, Emma Ferfecki, Francisco Mata-Ramitez, D’Ani Morales and Ssaid Mosquera.
Sofia Mendez received the Graduating Scholar Award.
Outstanding Academic Achievement Award recipients were Sedem Atadja, Alissandra Auletta, Layla Cumer-Tomasula, Gabriela de Oliveira Vasconcelos, Pamela Mejia-Medina, Viviana Mendez, Zaria Moore, Alexis Schumacher, Joshua Scialom, Oliver Van Dine, Kevin Velasquez Mejia, Carmella Vitel and Sean Yancey.
Centenary University congratulated all award recipients, calling their accomplishments an inspiration to the campus community.
