County College of Morris to host free Cybersecurity Night Oct. 21

RANDOLPH TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Morris County) — County College of Morris will host a free Cybersecurity Night on Wednesday, Oct. 21, bringing together students, families, industry professionals and government representatives to raise awareness about cybersecurity threats and explore educational and career opportunities in the field.

The event, organized by CCM’s Department of Information Technologies, will take place from 5:30 to 9 p.m. at Cohen Café in Cohen Hall on the college’s Randolph campus.

Held during Cybersecurity Awareness Month, the event will provide practical information about protecting personal information, understanding emerging cyber threats and pursuing careers in cybersecurity.

“We are excited, for a third consecutive year, to host this event to promote cybersecurity awareness and best practices to build a Cyber Strong America,” said Dawn Rywalt, professor of Information Technologies at CCM.

Attendees will have an opportunity to learn about CCM’s certificate and associate degree programs in computer science, information security and information technology.

Representatives from four-year universities will also be available to discuss transfer opportunities for students interested in continuing their education after graduating from CCM.

Working professionals seeking to improve their computer and information technology skills, earn certifications or transition into cybersecurity careers can learn about the college’s workforce development training and certification programs.

The event will also feature an industry panel discussing the cybersecurity landscape, including challenges facing organizations and the skills needed to protect businesses, institutions and communities from cyber threats.

Representatives from the New Jersey Cybersecurity and Communications Integration Cell will provide information about cybersecurity threats, preparedness and the importance of public awareness.

According to CCM, the college is the only community college in northern New Jersey designated as a National Center of Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense Two-Year Education by the National Security Agency and Department of Homeland Security.

The designation recognizes the college’s cybersecurity education programs and their efforts to prepare students for careers in cybersecurity and related fields.

Cybersecurity Night is free and open to the public, although advance registration is encouraged.

Check-in and refreshments will begin at 5:30 p.m., followed by the program at 6 p.m.

The event will be held at Cohen Café in Cohen Hall at County College of Morris, 214 Center Grove Road in Randolph. Parking will be available in Lot 7.
