Driver ejected, seriously injured in I-80 crash in Morris County

MOUNT ARLINGTON BOROUGH, NJ (Morris County) – A Connecticut man suffered serious injuries early Thursday morning after he was ejected from his car during a crash on Interstate 80 in Morris County, according to New Jersey State Police spokesperson Trooper Troy McNair.

The single-vehicle crash happened at around 12:59 a.m. on Interstate 80 eastbound at milepost 30.3 in Mount Arlington Borough, McNair said.

A preliminary police investigation revealed that a Volvo passenger vehicle, driven by Miguel Cardenas, 40, of Norwalk, was traveling eastbound on I-80 when Cardenas lost directional control, ran off the roadway to the left, struck the concrete barrier, reentered the lanes of travel, ran off the roadway to the right, struck the guardrail, overturned, and subsequently collided with a tree, McNair said.

During the sequence of the collision, Cardenas was ejected, McNair said.

As a result of the crash, Cardenas suffered serious injuries and was transported to an area hospital, McNair said.

The crash remains under investigation and no additional information was available, McNair said.
