TRENTON, N.J. — The New Jersey Department of Labor and Workforce Development has announced the appointment of Emy Quispe as its new chief of staff, bringing more than a decade of public service and leadership experience to the role.

Quispe, an Elizabeth resident, most recently served as deputy chief of staff to former Gov. Phil Murphy, where she managed key external constituencies and helped advance major administration priorities.

“We are honored to have Emy Quispe join this department as our Chief of Staff,” said Acting Labor Commissioner Kevin D. Jarvis. “Her depth of executive leadership experience navigating complex organizations will immediately strengthen our ability to deliver for the people of New Jersey. Her strategic vision and collaborative approach will be instrumental as we advance our mission to protect workers, support employers, and expand opportunities for every community across the Garden State.”

In her new role, Quispe will help guide the department’s operations and policy initiatives aimed at workforce development, worker protections and economic growth.

“I am honored to be a part of the Department of Labor and Workforce Development at this historic moment in the Sherrill Administration,” said Labor Chief of Staff Quispe. “I look forward to continuing to serve the people of New Jersey and working alongside the dedicated public servants at NJDOL to promote diverse opportunities and increase access, strengthen worker protections, continue our partnerships with established and new businesses, and help ensure our economy works for everyone.”

Quispe previously served as director of the Governor’s Office of Legislative Affairs, where she oversaw the administration’s legislative agenda and worked closely with members of the state Senate and General Assembly.

Her earlier experience includes roles in the Office of the Speaker Pro Tempore Assemblywoman Annette Quijano and as deputy director for Latino and Faith-Based Outreach during Murphy’s 2021 re-election campaign.

She also worked as a political organizer with Service Employees International Union Local 32BJ, advocating for improved working conditions, stronger benefits and worker protections.

State officials said her appointment will help advance the department’s mission to support workers, employers and communities across New Jersey.
