Firefighters extinguish balcony fire at Morris County apartment complex

NETCONG BOROUGH, N.J. (Morris County) — A balcony fire at the Netcong Heights Apartments was extinguished Tuesday morning by first responders.

Emergency crews were dispatched around 11:47 a.m. on July 22 after the apartment complex’s leasing office reported the fire. Netcong Police and the borough’s fire chief confirmed flames on the second-floor balcony of one of the units upon arrival. Officers used fire extinguishers to knock back the flames before firefighters arrived.

The Netcong Fire Department responded to the scene, with assistance requested from the Roxbury Fire Department for manpower. Budd Lake Fire Department was also dispatched as a Rapid Intervention Crew (RIC) as a precaution in case the fire extended into the attic.

Crews extinguished the fire in the soffit and conducted overhaul operations. A small dog was safely removed from the apartment without injury, authorities said.

The cause of the fire was not immediately known, and it was unclear if anyone was injured.
