Free Fishing Day event planned in Hackettstown with lessons, river activities

HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. (Warren County) — The Musconetcong Watershed Association and PEACENJ will host a free community fishing event June 6 in Hackettstown aimed at teaching residents of all ages about fishing, river ecology and water safety.

The “Free Fishing Day” celebration will take place Saturday, June 6, from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Doug A. Blake Memorial Alumni Field off Willow Grove Street.

Organizers said the event is open to experienced anglers as well as beginners interested in learning the basics of fishing and exploring the Musconetcong River ecosystem.

Activities will include Fishing 101 instruction covering casting and knot-tying techniques, along with demonstrations focused on fly fishing and spin fishing.

Participants will also learn about aquatic life found in the Musconetcong River, watershed conservation, river ecology and fishing safety.

The event is designed to promote outdoor recreation and environmental education while encouraging families and community members to enjoy local waterways responsibly.
