Free steering wheel locks available for Kia, Hyundai drivers in Raritan Township

RARITAN TOWNSHIP, NJ (Hunterdon County) – Raritan Township Police Department will give away free steering wheel locks to drivers of frequently stolen vehicles.

More than 114,000 Kias and Hyundais were stolen nationwide last year, an increase of 95% from 2021.

Police departments around the country are offering a hardware fix: free steering wheel locks. Law enforcement agencies attribute the jump to a TikTok challenge that shows how certain models can be easily hot -wired using just a USB cord. As the videos go viral, the carmakers and law enforcement agencies are working hard to combat the thefts.

In response to the increasing number of vehicle thefts in New Jersey, the Raritan Township Police Department joined the anti-theft program by Kia and Hyundai, and was granted steering wheel locks for the below listed years and models of vehicles.
