Morristown Medical Center, Overlook Medical Center earn consistent ‘A’ grades from Leapfrog Group

NEW JERSEY – Two of Atlantic Health System’s hospitals, Morristown Medical Center and Overlook Medical Center, earned ‘A’ grades by The Leapfrog Group in its Spring 2024 Hospital Safety Grades.

Each of the two hospitals have earned top marks for consecutive scoring periods. Morristown Medical Center has maintained an ‘A’ Grade since Fall 2015 and Overlook Medical Center has been a consistent ‘A’ since Spring 2021.

“This recognition by Leapfrog illustrates our commitment to safety and quality,” said Scott Leighty, Executive Vice President and Chief Health System Officer, Atlantic Health System. “For both Morristown and Overlook to consistently earn A grades, is a clear example of the paramount focus on safety that patients and their loved ones have come to expect from the exceptional care our talented physicians, nurses, and team members provide.”

The Leapfrog Group, an independent national nonprofit watchdog organization, assigns an “A,” “B,” “C,” “D” or “F” grade to general hospitals across the country based on over 30 measures of errors, accidents, injuries, and infections as well as the systems hospitals have in place to prevent them.

“Everyone who works at Morristown Medical Center and Overlook Medical Center should be proud of this ‘A’ Hospital Safety Grade,” said Leah Binder, president, and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. “It takes complete dedication at every level, and an ironclad commitment to putting patients first. I thank Atlantic Health System, Morristown, Overlook and their leadership, clinicians, staff, and volunteers for caring so deeply for its patients and their safety.”

The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade is the only hospital ratings program focused exclusively on preventable medical errors, infections and injuries that kill more than 500 patients a day nationally. The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade is peer-reviewed, fully transparent and free to the public. Grades are updated twice annually, in the fall and spring.
