Frelinghuysen Township proclaims May as Older Americans Month, honoring seniors’ contributions
FRELINGHUYSEN TOWNSHIP, NJ (Warren County) – Mayor Sharon Drylie officially recognized May as Older Americans Month during the township’s senior meeting on Tuesday, reading a proclamation honoring the vital role older adults play in the Frelinghuysen Township community and beyond.
The proclamation highlights the wisdom, cultural knowledge, and life experience that older Americans bring to society, noting their contributions through intergenerational relationships, civic engagement, and community service. Mayor Drylie emphasized that when people of all ages, abilities, and backgrounds are supported and included, the entire community benefits.
“It was an honor to participate in the senior meeting today,” Mayor Drylie said. “The seniors are truly the backbone of our community, and their knowledge and love for our town should be passed on to generations to come.”
This year’s national theme, “Flip the Script on Aging,” urges communities to challenge outdated stereotypes and foster a more inclusive understanding of aging. It encourages meaningful dialogue about aging and promotes respect for the value older adults bring to daily life.
“We must ensure that older Americans have the resources and support needed to stay involved in their communities,” the proclamation stated, underscoring the township’s commitment to inclusivity and connectedness.
The Frelinghuysen Township Committee called on all residents to celebrate the contributions of older adults and to support programs that strengthen community ties and promote active, independent living for seniors.
