Gottheimer returns from bipartisan intelligence trip to Middle East
WASHINGTON, D.C. — U.S. Rep. Josh Gottheimer (D-NJ), a member of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, returned Sunday from a bipartisan congressional delegation trip to Jordan and the Kurdistan Region of Iraq.
The trip, which Gottheimer led alongside Rep. Ronny Jackson (R-TX), focused on countering Iranian aggression and advancing peace and stability in the region. While abroad, the lawmakers met with high-level Jordanian and Kurdish officials as well as U.S. military and diplomatic personnel.
Discussions included ways to strengthen support for counterterrorism operations against ISIS and Iran-aligned terrorist groups that target American troops and allies. Gottheimer also met with American service members from New Jersey stationed in Iraq to thank them for their service.
“In the Middle East, I met with our Jordanian and Kurdish allies to strengthen our shared goal of peace and stability in the region. Our bipartisan delegation reinforced America’s commitment to combat ISIS and Iran-aligned terrorist groups, support our allies, and keep Iran’s aggression in check,” Gottheimer said. “In Iraq, I was especially proud to meet with our brave service members from New Jersey to thank them for their dedication to keeping our country safe.”
