Gottheimer tours Newton Medical Center, discusses health care access and workforce challenges
NEWTON, N.J. (Sussex County) — U.S. Rep. Josh Gottheimer toured Atlantic Health System’s Newton Medical Center and met with hospital leaders to discuss improving access to care and supporting health care workers across North Jersey.
During the visit, Gottheimer walked through the facility and held discussions with Atlantic Health System President and CEO Saad Ehtisham about challenges facing local hospitals, including workforce recruitment and retention, the growing role of artificial intelligence in health care and ways Congress can better support providers and patients.
Atlantic Health System is a nonprofit network that includes seven hospitals, more than 20,000 team members and over 5,400 affiliated physicians, serving more than half of New Jersey’s population across 14 counties.
“I’m grateful to President and CEO Saad Ehtisham and the entire Atlantic Health team for welcoming me to Newton Medical Center today,” said Congressman Josh Gottheimer (NJ-5). “Our hospitals and health care workers are the backbone of our communities, caring for Jersey families every single day. I’ll keep fighting in Congress to lower costs, expand access to care, and support our health care providers so they can continue delivering world-class care here in Jersey.”
Gottheimer was joined on the tour by Ehtisham, Hackettstown and Newton Medical Center Chief Medical Officer Geralda Xavier, Chief Nursing Officer Danielle Giovanniello, as well as nurses and physicians.
