Hackettstown among 3 N.J. volunteer fire departments awarded $10K State Farm, NVFC Grant
HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. (Warren County) — Hackettstown was among three New Jersey volunteer fire departments awarded $10,000 grants through the Good Neighbor Firefighter Safety Program, a national initiative supported by State Farm and the National Volunteer Fire Council.
A total of $1.5 million was awarded to 150 volunteer fire departments in 44 states, the organizations announced Aug. 18, Volunteer Firefighters Recognition Day. The funding is intended to help departments purchase critical equipment to improve responder safety and community protection.
The three New Jersey recipients are the Hackettstown Fire Department, Harrington Park Fire Company No. 1 and Prospect Park Fire Department.
Volunteer firefighters make up about 65% of the U.S. fire service, according to the NVFC. Many departments face financial challenges in obtaining equipment such as protective gear, EMS tools and communication devices.
“The NVFC is proud to team up with State Farm to continue the Good Neighbor Firefighter Safety Program and provide critical assistance to volunteer fire departments,” NVFC Chair Steve Hirsch said in a statement.
“We are proud to support volunteer firefighters – the ultimate good neighbors who risk their lives daily,” said Rasheed Merritt, State Farm corporate responsibility assistant vice president. “At State Farm, we’re committed to helping people manage everyday risks and building safer, stronger communities.”
Since the program launched in 2024, $2.5 million has been awarded to 250 local departments. State Farm also provided complimentary NVFC memberships to the first 2,000 eligible applicants this year.
