Hiker rescued after medical emergency on Blue Trail in Readington Township

READINGTON TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Hunterdon County) — Emergency responders rescued a hiker who experienced a medical emergency Sunday morning on the Blue Trail at Pickell Park, according to the Whitehouse Rescue Squad.

The Readington Township Police Department and Whitehouse Rescue Squad were dispatched at approximately 8:15 a.m. to the park for a report of a hiker in distress.

The patient was located a significant distance from the park entrance along the Blue Trail. Readington Township police officers reached the hiker first, followed by Whitehouse Rescue Squad personnel and a paramedic from Hunterdon Medical Center.

Because the patient’s location was inaccessible to the rescue squad’s off-road vehicle, emergency crews continued on foot. Additional personnel and specialized equipment were staged in case a more complex rescue was needed.

The Readington Township Department of Public Works and the Office of Emergency Management also responded, providing an additional off-road vehicle to transport equipment and personnel to crews operating on the trail.

The patient was successfully removed from the trail and transferred to a basic life support ambulance for further evaluation.

No additional information about the patient’s condition was released.
