Homeowner injured in Morris County 2-alarm fire
JEFFERSON TOWNSHIP, NJ (Morris County) – A two-alarm fire in Morris County Saturday afternoon injured a homeowner.
The fire broke out at around 1:48 p.m. at 12 Minnisink Road in the Lake Hopatcong section of Jefferson Township, according to Jefferson Twp. Police Captain Robert Bush.
Initial officers on scene reported smoke and visible flames emitting from the rear of the residence, Bush said.
Upon arrival of Jefferson Township Fire Chief Jenkins, he immediately requested a second-alarm to be dispatched, The fire grew rapidly inside the home while completely consuming the back deck, according to a post on the Jefferson Township Fire Company’s Facebook page.
“At one point when crews were working both in and outside, we decided to sound the alarm to pull everyone out and regroup,” the post said.
Picatinny Fire Department’s ladder truck was used to help cut a hole for ventilation and eventually blitz the attic. Blitzing the attic helped fire crews get back inside and extinguish the remaining fire, the post said.
“The fire took roughly 30 minutes to get knocked down after it jumped around a bit from its balloon construction. Another couple hours were needed to overhaul and extinguish many hot spots,” the post said.
The homeowner, who was present during the fire, suffered minor injuries and was transported to an area hospital, Bush said.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
