Hunterdon County announces increased funding for veterans’ transportation services

HUNTERDON COUNTY, NJ – The Hunterdon County Board of Commissioners recently approved a resolution increasing funding for transportation services benefiting local veterans.

The modification to the existing LINK contract with the Department of Military and Veterans Affairs allocates additional grant funds from July 1, 2024, through June 30, 2025, ensuring reliable transportation for veterans to medical appointments and essential services.

Under the resolution, the original grant of $15,000 has been raised to $17,300, reflecting the county’s commitment to supporting its veteran community and addressing their growing transportation needs.

Commissioner and co-liaison to Veterans Affairs, Susan Soloway, emphasized the importance of reliable transportation for veterans, especially regarding healthcare. “This funding increase will allow Hunterdon County to continue its efforts to improve transportation options for local veterans,” she stated.

In addition to providing LINK services, Hunterdon County is collaborating with goHunterdon to offer supplementary transportation through Lyft and Uber when LINK services are unavailable. This expanded transportation support is made possible by a $100,000 grant awarded to goHunterdon by the Board of Commissioners to improve transportation access across the county.

“Hunterdon County is committed to ensuring our veterans receive the care and resources they deserve,” said Commissioner Jeff Kuhl, co-liaison for Veterans Affairs. “By increasing funding for transportation services, we are removing obstacles and making life a little easier for those who served.”
