Hunterdon County proclaims October as Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month

FLEMINGTON, N.J. (Hunterdon County) — The Hunterdon County Board of County Commissioners has officially proclaimed October as Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month in Hunterdon County, recognizing families affected by miscarriage, stillbirth, and other devastating losses.

During the Oct. 7 Board meeting, Commissioners presented a proclamation to Healing After Loss Outreach co-founders Hayley Weichler and Lauren Welch in acknowledgment of their dedicated advocacy and support for families experiencing pregnancy and infant loss.

“Every life, no matter how brief, leaves a lasting presence. By proclaiming October as Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month in Hunterdon County, we honor the memory of babies gone too soon and affirm our commitment to supporting the families who have experienced this loss,” said Commissioner Board Director John E. Lanza.

The proclamation recognizes the emotional pain and lasting grief endured by families who have experienced miscarriage, stillbirth, preterm birth, sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS), and other complications. It also underscores the importance of community compassion, remembrance, and education in supporting affected families.

The national and international Day of Remembrance for Pregnancy and Infant Loss will take place on Oct. 15, when families and communities are encouraged to light a candle at 7 p.m. to honor the memory of babies who have passed.

Hunterdon County officials encouraged residents to learn more about prevention, support resources, and ways to extend empathy to those who have experienced such a loss.
