Hunterdon County clerk and sheriff set 2026 dates for free Ident-A-Shred events

RARITAN TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Hunterdon County) — Hunterdon County’s clerk and sheriff will again host four Ident-A-Shred events in 2026, offering residents a free, secure way to dispose of sensitive personal documents, county officials said.

County Commissioner Director John E. Lanza announced the schedule at a recent Board of County Commissioners meeting, saying the events will be hosted by Sheriff Fred Brown and County Clerk Mary Melfi.

“As liaison to the Sheriff and County Clerk, I am pleased to share that these important events will continue this year,” said Director Lanza. “Ident-A-Shred plays a critical role in helping our residents protect themselves from identity theft, and we thank Sheriff Brown and Clerk Melfi for their continued leadership in providing this valuable service.”

All four events will be held on Saturdays at the Route 12 County Complex, 314 State Route 12, in Raritan Township. They will run from 8 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., or until shredding trucks reach capacity, officials said.

The 2026 dates are April 18, May 30, Sept. 19 and Oct. 17.

The events are limited to Hunterdon County residents; businesses are not permitted. Residents are encouraged to bring documents containing personal or sensitive information for free shredding and are limited to the equivalent of five file storage boxes, or 50 pounds per box, per resident, per event, officials said. A complete list of acceptable and non-accepted items is available on the event flyer.

Director Lanza added, “By offering Ident-A-Shred, we are giving residents peace of mind while reinforcing our dedication to public safety and consumer protection. This is a simple but powerful way to help safeguard personal information.”
