Hunterdon County Commissioner Director Jeff Kuhl joins with Boy Scouts in honoring Raritan Township Police Chief Alfred C. Payne III

RARITAN TOWNSHIP, NJ (Hunterdon County) – Raritan Township Police Chief Alfred C. Payne III was honored Monday by the Boy Scouts of America, Hunterdon Arrowhead District – Washington Crossing Council, with the “Hunterdon Leadership Award” and presented with a proclamation from the Hunterdon County Board of Commissioners.

Director Jeff Kuhl attended the event and said, “I would like to extend a sincere congratulations from the entire Board. Al Payne encompasses the leadership, morals, and values of what makes an outstanding leader, and he is a positive role model for the youth in our community.”

Chief Payne is a former member of the U.S. Marine Corps. and was hired as a patrolman for Raritan Township in 1996. He was promoted through the ranks as Sergeant and Lieutenant, before being appointed to Police Chief in 2018. The Raritan Township Police Department is committed to keeping the community a safe place to live, work and visit. The department continues to explore new ways to partner with the residents, business owners, and school communities to improve the quality of life and public safety in Hunterdon County.

“In 2020, when I was Mayor of Raritan Township, I had the pleasure of working with Chief Payne through the challenges of the pandemic and I am proud to say we had each other’s back. This award on behalf of the Boy Scouts of America is well deserved, and I wish Chief Payne much continued success in all his future endeavors,” Kuhl said.

For more than 100 years, Boy Scouts of America (BSA) has helped build future leaders by combining education activities and lifelong values with fun and adventure in the outdoors. The mission of the BSA is to prepare young people to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetime and the “Hunterdon Leadership Award” is presented to a member of the community that upholds these admirable values of leadership.

The Washington Crossing Council is dedicated to supporting a quality program that builds better young people and future leaders. The Washington Crossing Council provides Scouting programs for young people and their families in Hunterdon and Mercer Counties in New Jersey, as well as Bucks County, in Pennsylvania.
