Hunterdon County Commissioners review newly renovated, grant-funded 911 communication dispatch room
HUNTERDON COUNTY, NJ – The Hunterdon County Commissioners recently celebrated the grand opening of its newly renovated 911 Communication Dispatch Room with a ribbon cutting and tour of the new facility.
The project that began in July took just over a month to complete and was undertaken to enhance communication systems and the efficiency of emergency response services in the county.
Commissioner John Lanza, who also serves as the liaison to the Department of Public Safety said, “Operations at the communications center happen 24 hours a day, every day of the year. With constant wear and tear, the equipment in this room was beginning to require substantial upgrading. This renovation represents our commitment to providing the highest level of emergency services to our residents. The upgrades in the new dispatch room will greatly improve emergency services personnel’s ability to respond to emergencies quickly and efficiently.”
In 2023, the Department of Public Safety was awarded a grant of $1 million to assist in updating the dispatch room features, including state-of-the-art technology with the implementation of a new Computer Aided Dispatching (CAD) system, console furniture upgrades with enhanced task lighting, climate controls and desks that allow staff ability to sit or stand while working.
Substantial improvements were also made to the audio-visual system, including specialized flooring to reduce the harmful effects of static electricity on the electronic equipment and the increased number of operational dispatch positions from eleven to fifteen.
“The completion of this renovation is a major step forward for Hunterdon County. Our investment in this emergency services facility underscores our dedication to public safety and our ongoing efforts to support our emergency responders with the best possible resources,” Director of Public Safety Brayden Fahey said.
