Single-engine plane crashes in Sussex County

SUSSEX BOROUGH, NJ (Sussex County) – A plane crashed in Sussex County Monday night.

The FAA said a single-engine Champion Citabria crashed in Sussex Borough around 7:00 p.m. with only the pilot on board.

Authorities said it happened in the area of the East Main Street Plaza, near Alpine Village and Wilson Manor.

A preliminary investigation revealed that the aircraft crashed into a tree line due to a fuel issue, according to New Jersey State Police spokesperson Sergeant Jeffrey Lebron.

The pilot sustained minor injuries and was transported to an area hospital, Lebron said.

The FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board are investigating.
