SOMERVILLE, NJ (Somerset County) – A Middlesex County man has been sentenced for sexually assaulting a 12-year-old girl in Bound Brook Borough, according to the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office.
Lenic S. Galvan, 22, currently of Piscataway and formerly of Bound Brook Borough, was sentenced on Nov. 18 to seven years in New Jersey State Prison on his conviction for second-degree sexual assault by contact of a victim less than 13 years old. He will not be eligible for parole until he serves 85% of the sentence. The sentence imposed by Somerset County Superior Court Judge Jonathan W. Romankow requires him to register as a sex offender under Megan’s Law and places him on Parole Supervision for Life. During sentencing, Judge Romankow noted Galvan’s predatory behavior.
On July 25, 2021, the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office received information that a 12-year-old girl reported that she was sexually assaulted in Bound Brook Borough by an unknown male who she met on social media, officials said.
The investigation into the alleged sexual assault was conducted by detectives from the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit and detectives from the Bound Brook Borough Police Department.
The 12-year-old girl was interviewed by a detective from the Special Victims Unit and stated that she met an unknown male on social media, who was later identified as Lenic Galvan. He arranged for transportation for the victim to his residence where he sexually assaulted her, the prosecutor’s office said.
On July 26, 2022, as a result of this investigation and DNA results, Galvan was arrested without incident in Bound Brook and charged with first-degree aggravated sexual assault, second-degree sexual assault by contact and third-degree endangering the welfare of a child, authorities said.
On May 14, 2024, a Somerset County Jury convicted Galvan of second-degree sexual assault by contact and third-degree endangering the welfare of a child after six days of trial.
During trial, the State was represented by First Assistant Prosecutor Annemarie Mueller, Assistant Prosecutor Emily Pirro, and Litigation Paralegal Supervisor Amy Vandergoot.
