Hunterdon County officials join seniors for Carnevale celebration at senior center
RARITAN TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Hunterdon County) — Hunterdon County Commissioner Shaun Van Doren and County Clerk Mary Melfi joined residents Feb. 27 for a Carnevale celebration at the Hunterdon County Senior Center.
The event, hosted in partnership with the Italian Friendship Circle, brought together senior center members for an afternoon of food, culture and community.
Participants learned about the Italian tradition of Carnevale, a celebration known for its colorful masks, festive gatherings and cultural significance leading up to the Lenten season.
Attendees also took part in a potluck-style gathering, sharing savory and sweet dishes while discussing the customs and traditions associated with Carnevale in Italy.
“Events like this are a wonderful way for our senior community to come together, learn something new, and celebrate different cultures,” Van Doren said. “The Senior Center continues to offer programs that bring people together and create meaningful experiences for our residents.”
Melfi also praised the event and the sense of community it created.
“It was a pleasure to join everyone for such a lively and enjoyable afternoon,” Melfi said. “Programs like this highlight the importance of celebrating traditions while building connections within our community.”
The Hunterdon County Senior Center regularly hosts educational, cultural and social programs designed to help older adults remain active and engaged.
County officials said Hunterdon County residents age 60 and older who are enrolled as senior center members are encouraged to participate in the programs offered throughout the year.
