Hunterdon County police officer charged with stalking, violating restraining order

CLINTON, N.J. (Hunterdon County) — A Town of Clinton police officer has been arrested and charged with stalking and violating a domestic violence restraining order, officials said Saturday.

Hunterdon County Prosecutor Renée M. Robeson said Officer Joseph D. Pietraszewski, 29, of Readington Township, was arrested Friday after investigators determined he engaged in a pattern of conduct involving an ex-girlfriend.

Authorities said Pietraszewski was placed on administrative leave March 27 after making concerning comments about the woman to a co-worker. Officials said the victim later reported that he appeared at locations where she was present on multiple occasions, prompting her to obtain a temporary restraining order.

After the restraining order was issued, investigators determined Pietraszewski placed a tracking device on the victim’s vehicle, according to authorities.

Hunterdon County SWAT took Pietraszewski into custody at his residence Friday without incident.

He is charged with third-degree stalking, fourth-degree stalking and fourth-degree contempt of a restraining order. He is being held at the Warren County Jail pending a pretrial detention hearing scheduled for April 15.

Prosecutors said the investigation remains active and ongoing.

Third-degree charges carry a potential sentence of three to five years in prison and fines up to $15,000. Fourth-degree charges carry a possible sentence of up to 18 months in prison and fines up to $10,000.
