Hunterdon County receives $68K state grant award for new fitness pavilion At Deer Path Park
HUNTERDON COUNTY, NJ – The Hunterdon County Commissioners recently announced a grant in the amount of $68,000 was awarded to the Hunterdon County Division of Parks and Recreation from the New Jersey Local Recreation Improvement Grant program.
This generous funding will be used to build an accessible fitness pavilion at Deer Path Park, enhancing the park’s amenities and providing greater access to fitness opportunities for all residents, including those with diverse mobility needs.
“The new fitness pavilion will be a great addition to the existing fitness trail at Deer Path Park. The pavilion will be specifically designed to serve populations that may face challenges in accessing the current fitness trail stations, ensuring that everyone, regardless of physical ability, can enjoy the health benefits of outdoor exercise,” Commissioner Director Jeff Kuhl said.
The New Jersey Local Recreation Improvement Grant program supports local projects that enhance recreational opportunities, promote healthier lifestyles, and improve the quality of life for New Jersey residents. Hunterdon County Division of Parks and Recreation’s proposal for the accessible fitness pavilion was selected based on its potential to significantly impact the community and its alignment with the program’s goals.
Construction of the fitness pavilion is expected to begin in late 2024 and is anticipated to be completed by Spring 2025 and will feature accessible equipment and design elements that cater to a wide range of abilities, ensuring a welcoming and supportive environment for all users.
The new fitness pavilion comes as an additional upgrade to Deer Path Park following a nearly $2 million dollar upgrade featuring an all-inclusive playground to serve children of all abilities. Upgrades to the playground feature ramped structure climbers, slides, play panels, free standing swings, spinners, and a music center. Additional improvements include upgrades to the softball field with ADA compliant bleachers and refurbishment of the park bathroom facilities.
Hunterdon County Division of Parks and Recreation invites community members to stay updated on the progress of the pavilion project through viewing the county website and social media channels. Hunterdon County looks forward to celebrating the opening of the new fitness pavilion and the enhanced opportunities it will bring to the community!
