I-80 eastbound Exit 30 ramp to Howard Boulevard to close for two weeks in Mount Arlington

MOUNT ARLINGTON BOROUGH, N.J. (Morris County) — The Interstate 80 eastbound Exit 30 ramp to Howard Boulevard will be closed for approximately two weeks beginning Monday as part of a bridge replacement project in Mount Arlington Borough, state transportation officials said.

The New Jersey Department of Transportation said the ramp closure is scheduled to begin at 3 a.m. Monday, April 20, and continue through 6 a.m. Friday, May 1.

The closure is necessary to complete traffic signal foundation work at the end of the ramp as part of the ongoing project to replace the bridges carrying I-80 over Howard Boulevard.

During the closure, motorists traveling eastbound on I-80 who wish to access Howard Boulevard will be detoured to Exit 34, then directed to Route 15 southbound before looping back to I-80 westbound and taking Exit 30.

The $65.4 million federally funded project will replace the aging bridges over Howard Boulevard, which officials said are in poor condition. The work includes raising bridge clearances, widening shoulders and ramps, and extending acceleration and deceleration lanes.

Additional improvements include upgraded traffic signals and lighting, as well as ADA-compliant sidewalks and crosswalks. Sidewalks will also be extended to the Mount Arlington Train Station to improve pedestrian and bicycle access.

The project is expected to be completed in summer 2027. Officials noted that the schedule is subject to change due to weather or other factors and encouraged motorists to check 511NJ for updates.
