Inaugural ‘Battle of I-95’ event hosted by Hunterdon County was a FAN-tastic success
FLEMINGTON, NJ (Hunterdon County) – The Hunterdon County Department of Economic Development and Tourism, in collaboration with Flemington Community Partnership and the Hunterdon County Chamber of Commerce, hosted the first ever, “Battle of I-95 Fun Fest” on Stangl Road, in Flemington last Saturday.
The event was free to attend and open to all sports enthusiasts, especially fans of the New York Giants and Philadelphia Eagles football teams.
Deputy Director Susan Soloway attended the ‘Battle of I-95’ and said, “This event is a great way to kickoff the football season with some fun-filled rivalry between New York Giants and Philadelphia Eagles fans. I was happy to see so many families with children of all ages in attendance, enjoying the fun activities!”
More than 250 people attended the inaugural event, that was launched under the “Explore Hunterdon” initiative, in their respective team colors to play arcade games on a Nintendo game trailer, and participate in Giants vs. Eagles team challenges including, a Nerf football toss, hamburger cook-off challenge, goat races, and trivia contest.
The premise of the Fun Fest was to create a meeting point for the two cities NFL fanbase, in Flemington and support local businesses and farms that participated in the event like, Gorgeous Goat Creamery, Bobolink, Blue Moon Farm, Haring Family Farm, Bread & Culture, and Cabbage Throw Farm, 55 Main Café at HealthQuest, Humdoo Ice Cream and many other boutique businesses along Stangl Road where the event is located.
Additionally, Lone Eagle Brewery helped market and plan the event in association with the Flemington Community Partnership and Brand Enchanting Media.
Former NY Giants and PA Eagles players, Otis Anderson and Hugh Douglas were on-hand to serve as team captains for fan challenges, photo opportunities and to sign autographs.
“I am happy to report that the Giants team prevailed in the challenges and won the overall competition with the most cumulative points! My hope is that the ‘Battle of I95’ will evolve into an annual event that will continue to showcase the wonderful farms, Main Streets, and outdoor recreational activities that Hunterdon County has to offer,” Soloway said.
