JCP&L offers personalized help for struggling households through energy assistance outreach team
NEW JERSEY — With many New Jersey households facing rising costs and financial uncertainty, Jersey Central Power and Light is expanding efforts to connect customers with programs that can lower their monthly electric bills.
The utility’s Energy Assistance Outreach Team, or EAOT, provides one-on-one support to eligible customers applying for the Universal Service Fund, a statewide program that helps low- to moderate-income households manage energy expenses. JCP&L is a subsidiary of FirstEnergy Corp.
“We understand many customers are concerned about home energy costs,” Doug Mokoid, president of FirstEnergy New Jersey, said in a statement. “We want them to know that JCP&L has their back. Our Energy Assistance Outreach Team can help customers get back on track and keep their homes comfortable.”
The EAOT works directly with customers to complete and submit USF applications and partners with community organizations to raise awareness about available bill-assistance resources. Residents can meet with team members at local utility assistance events or schedule an individual session at firstenergycorp.com/USF.
USF provides monthly credits to make energy bills more affordable, and qualifying participants may be eligible for Fresh Start — a one-time forgiveness of their account balance. To qualify, households must have a gross income at or below 60% of the state median income and spend more than 2% of their annual income on electricity, or more than 4% if they use electric heat.
Customers can learn more about USF or other assistance and payment-arrangement options at firstenergycorp.com/billassist.
