JCP&L president outlines infrastructure investments, community focus for 2026
NEW JERSEY — Jersey Central Power & Light President Doug Mokoid said the utility will continue investing in system reliability, grid modernization and community support as it moves into 2026, building on progress made over the past year.
In a message to customers, Mokoid said JCP&L reached a key milestone in 2025 by completing roughly half of its New Jersey Reliability Improvement Project, a two-phase effort targeting power lines with a history of outages. The initiative includes at least $95 million in upgrades scheduled through 2026, with additional long-term projects planned through 2028.
Mokoid said customers are already beginning to see benefits from the work and that future updates will highlight how the improvements are strengthening service across the state.
The utility also received approval from the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities last year for its EnergizeNJ infrastructure investment program. The three-year, $200 million initiative is aimed at modernizing the electric grid, reducing the number of customers affected by outages and shortening restoration times when outages occur.
In addition to infrastructure improvements, Mokoid said JCP&L and the FirstEnergy Foundation continued to support local communities in 2025 through grants addressing emergency relief, environmental initiatives and education. Funding supported wildfire relief efforts related to the Jones Road Fire, as well as projects such as tree plantings and STEM education programs.
Toward the end of the year, the FirstEnergy Foundation also awarded its annual “Gifts of the Season” grants to two local nonprofit organizations to help provide food and essential services to residents in need.
Looking ahead, Mokoid said JCP&L’s priorities for 2026 include maintaining safe and reliable electric service, continuing grid modernization efforts and improving the overall customer experience.
The company said it plans to build on its investments and community partnerships as it enters the new year, reaffirming its role as the local electric provider for customers across New Jersey.
