Kean presents $560K in federal funds for Washington Township police facility upgrades
WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Morris County) — U.S. Rep. Tom Kean Jr. on Tuesday presented a ceremonial $560,000 check to the Washington Township Police Department to support infrastructure repairs and improvements at its headquarters in Morris County.
The funding, secured through Community Project Funding, will be used for renovations to the building’s roof, HVAC system and parking lot, township officials said. The upgrades are intended to ensure the facility remains safe and fully operational for officers and the public.
Morris County Commissioner Deborah Smith attended the ceremony at police headquarters and emphasized the importance of investing in public safety infrastructure.
“It’s important that our local law enforcement have the resources and infrastructure needed to protect residents and keep Morris County among the safest places to live, work and raise a family,” Smith said. “Public safety is a shared responsibility, and what makes Morris County special is the close partnership among our federal, county and local officials, as well as the collaboration among our law enforcement agencies.”
Kean presented the ceremonial check alongside local and county officials, including Assemblyman Mike Inganamort, Washington Township Mayor Michael Marino, Morris County Sheriff James Gannon, County Clerk Ann Grossi and Surrogate Heather Darling. Members of the Washington Township Committee also attended.
Committeeman Matt Murello thanked Kean for securing the grant.
“Thank you Congressman Kean for your strong support in securing this valuable funding for the Township,” Murello said.
Officials said the improvements will help the department continue serving the community safely and effectively.
