Kean says he secured $6.3M in House funding bills for projects across NJ’s 7th District
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Rep. Tom Kean Jr. announced Friday that he secured $6.3 million in federal funding for communities across New Jersey’s 7th Congressional District, with six additional FY2026 Community Project requests included in House-passed government funding bills.
In the bills that cleared the House on Thursday (H.R. 7148 and H.R. 7147), Kean said $6,334,000 would be directed to local projects in the district. The legislation now moves to the Senate.
“This week, I successfully moved New Jersey’s priorities forward through the House. We are delivering vital resources for projects at home that will strengthen public safety, expand accessibility, invest in senior services and workforce training, and much more,” said Congressman Tom Kean, Jr. “Once signed into law, this funding will deliver significant benefits to individuals and families in New Jersey. All 15 of my Community Projects have now passed the House, and I remain fully committed to getting each of these priorities across the finish line.”
Kean’s office said the latest round of projects includes $365,000 for Mountainside Borough to convert the second floor of a former Department of Public Works garage into an Emergency Operations Center, including construction work, accessibility upgrades and equipment purchases.
Warren County Community College would receive $979,000 for improvements tied to an Agricultural Educational and Training Center on a 22-acre parcel in Oxford, a project intended to support training and workforce development and to expand food processing capacity in collaboration with the Northwest New Jersey Food Processing and Innovation, according to the announcement.
Washington Township is slated for $560,000 for renovations at the Washington Township Police Department building, including work on the roof, HVAC system and parking lot, the office said.
The city of Summit would receive $530,000 for Glenside Avenue drainage upgrades and new ADA-compliant sidewalks from Stiles Road to Baltusrol Road as part of the city’s sidewalk plan, according to the release.
Phillipsburg’s request totals $2.4 million for a Delaware River Park revitalization project that would include construction of a new landfill cap intended to address debris migration and allow recreation fields to reopen, as well as improved connections to regional trail networks and historic sites, the office said.
Hunterdon County would receive $1.5 million for an expansion and renovation of its senior center, including a new flexible programming space, equipment purchases and ADA improvements such as an elevator, according to the announcement.
Kean’s office said the funding stems from the FY2026 Community Project Funding process, in which he submitted 15 requests to the House Appropriations Committee in May 2025. All 15 projects he was allotted have now passed the House, the office said.
Earlier this month, Kean announced $3.8 million for projects in Bernards Township, Greenwich Township, Warren Township, Mount Arlington Borough, Sparta Township and Hopatcong Borough. In November, he also announced $3.7 million for local police departments in Byram, Readington and Holland townships.
