Lenape Valley junior wins girls state wrestling title, first in school history

SUSSEX COUNTY, N.J. — A Lenape Valley Regional High School student from Byram Township has made school history after winning a state wrestling championship.

Angelina Qualtieri, a junior, captured the NJSIAA Girls State Wrestling Championship at 100 pounds during competition held in Atlantic City.

With the win, Qualtieri became the first female wrestler from Lenape Valley to earn a state title and just the fifth wrestler from Sussex County to achieve the accomplishment.

Mayor Alex Rubenstein recognized the achievement in a public statement, highlighting the significance for both the school and the community.

“Success like this comes from years of dedication, discipline, and hard work. Angelina’s achievement is something the entire Byram community can be proud of, and she has set a tremendous example for younger athletes across our township,” Rubenstein said.

Officials said the township plans to recognize Qualtieri’s accomplishment with a display on the municipal sign and celebrate the milestone.

The victory marks a notable achievement for Lenape Valley’s wrestling program and adds to Sussex County’s history in the sport.
