Long Valley First Aid Squad plans local EMT training center to boost volunteer numbers
LONG VALLEY, N.J. (Morris County) — The Long Valley First Aid Squad (LVFAS) is working to address statewide challenges with EMT availability and volunteerism by establishing a local training center, with the goal of better serving residents in Washington Township.
In a letter to the community dated June 10, the squad shared updates on its plan to launch EMT training classes in Long Valley, beginning as early as January 2026, pending state approval. The move is part of a broader initiative to grow the squad’s ranks and ensure continued emergency care coverage for the town.
“With a program in our town, one can attend a class near home and still be available for family time,” the squad stated. “As we work on this endeavor, we have realized we need additional assistance.”
While LVFAS will continue to cover the majority of emergency calls in the township, residents may occasionally see Atlantic Mobile ambulances responding to calls. Officials emphasized that having trained individuals available locally remains the best way to ensure timely care during emergencies.
To support these efforts, LVFAS is encouraging residents to consider becoming volunteer members. More volunteers, the squad said, means less strain on current members and better service to the community.
