Raritan Township offers ‘No Solicitors’ stickers to residents on no-knock list
RARITAN TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Hunterdon County) — Residents who have signed up for Raritan Township’s “No-Knock” list can now pick up “No Solicitors” warning stickers to display on their doors, township officials announced.
Under Ordinance 24-21, residents may register their address on the township’s “No-Knock” list to prohibit door-to-door commercial solicitation. Licensed solicitors are provided with the list and instructed to avoid those homes.
The newly available stickers are intended to give registered residents a visible way to notify solicitors they are not welcome.
Stickers can be picked up at the Municipal Clerk’s Office, 1 Municipal Drive, Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Residents must already be registered on the “No-Knock” list to receive a sticker.
To join the list, residents must complete the online application form and provide their name, home address and contact information. Only the address will appear on the list, and one person per household should register.
Anyone seeking to go door-to-door for commercial purposes must obtain a solicitor’s license from the Township Clerk’s Office and clearly display the license while soliciting.
Violations of the ordinance can result in fines of up to $2,000, and repeat offenders may be ordered by a court to perform community service. Residents may report unlicensed solicitors or violations of the “No-Knock” list to the Raritan Township Police Department’s non-emergency line at 908-782-8889.
Certain groups are exempt from the ordinance, including religious and nonprofit organizations, political campaigners, honorably discharged veterans with a peddler’s license, volunteer firefighters, public utility workers with identification and individuals offering snow shoveling services within 24 hours after a snowstorm.
Additional information about the ordinance is available through the township’s online municipal code platform or township alerts.
