Charter bus driver charged with DWI after returning students, chaperones to Morris County school

JEFFERSON TOWNSHIP, NJ (Morris County) — A charter bus driver was charged with DWI after returning students and chaperones to a Jefferson Township school on Thursday evening.

On May 15, at around 6:34 p.m., police responded to White Rock Elementary School after receiving a report that a charter bus driver allegedly appeared to be under the influence, authorities said.

The bus had just returned from a field trip to the school in Oak Ridge, carrying students and a chaperones, police said.

Upon arrival, officers made contact with the driver, Jean Audain, 57, of Spring Valley, NY. Following an investigation, officers arrested Audain and conducted further testing for impairment, police said.

Audain was charged with driving while intoxicated (DWI) and reckless driving and was released pending a court appearance, police said.

The incident remains under investigation, and additional charges may be filed once it concludes, police said.
