Man accused of pulling knife on officers at Sussex County hotel
VERNON TOWNSHIP, NJ (Sussex County) – A New York man was transported for a medical evaluation after police said he was acting erratically and then pulled a knife on officers at a hotel in Vernon Township Saturday afternoon, according to police.
On March 9, at 1:47 p.m., police responded to Minerals Hotel, located at 2 Chamonix Drive, for a report of a suspicious male acting erratically who was making some of the patrons feel unsafe and saying threatening statements, police said.
The first arriving officers made contact with the suspicious male in the main indoor pool area and based on his behavior, officers advised patrons in the general vicinity to leave the area, police said.
Additional police units were requested for mutual aid from surrounding towns and an off-duty police officer also assisted the Vernon Township police officer, police said.
The male was being uncooperative and pulled out a knife on officers. The male subsequently dropped the knife and officers were able to deescalate the situation, police said.
The man was taken by ambulance for a medical evaluation, police said.
The case remains open and under review for criminal charges, police said.
