Man accused of shoplifting from Morris County Target using mobility scooter

WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Morris County) — A 52-year-old Belvidere man was arrested Wednesday after allegedly attempting to shoplift from the Target store in Washington Township while using a motorized mobility scooter to conceal merchandise, authorities said.

According to police, officers responded to the store around 3:30 p.m. for a reported shoplifting incident in progress. Upon arrival, store employees directed officers to the suspect, who was operating the scooter inside the store.

A brief investigation determined that the man had hidden several items within the scooter and attempted to leave the store without paying, police said.

He was taken into custody, transported to Washington Township Police Headquarters for processing, and released pending a future appearance in municipal court. His name was not released.
