Center for Lifelong Learning March offerings at Sussex County Community College

NEWTON, NJ (Sussex County) – The Center for Lifelong Learning at Sussex County Community College (SCCC), in collaboration with the Sussex County Department of Health and Human Services, Division of Senior Services, is hosting a series of lectures and classes throughout March.

Free Lecture: Positive Psychology

Join Professor Rich Linden, M.A., on Friday, March 28, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. in the Atrium of the Performing Arts Center at SCCC for a presentation on how the lessons of Positive Psychology can enhance personal well-being. Hands-on Learning: Introduction to Drawing

This five-part class will focus on developing observational drawing skills and hand-eye coordination. Participants will explore basic drawing techniques such as line, proportion, perspective, texture, and light and shade. The class, led by Professor Michael Hughes, a practicing artist and SCCC Fine Arts faculty member, will be held Saturdays at 10:00 a.m., starting March 15 and continuing on March 22, March 29, April 5, and April 12, 2025. The cost is $30. Classes will take place in the Art Gallery, Room C106 (near the entrance to the “B” Building). Parking is available behind the Horton Mansion or in the main parking lot. Become a Community Journalist in Your Hometown

For the second year, the Center is offering a free Community Journalist Certificate program, aimed at helping community members develop the skills needed to cover local news. The course, available both in-person and online, begins March 18, 2025. In-person workshops will meet eight consecutive Tuesdays at SCCC, from 12:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m., while the online version is offered asynchronously. The instructor, Professor Cheryl Conway, is a practicing community reporter and newspaper editor. For more information and registration, call 973-579-0555, ext. 1277.

Come See the Show: “You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown”

SCCC’s Visual and Performing Arts Department will present the spring musical, “You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown,” celebrating the 75th anniversary of the Peanuts comic strip. As a special treat, the Center for Lifelong Learning invites attendees to enjoy a lunch and matinee show on Saturday, April 5, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. at the Performing Arts Center. The cost is $45 for lunch and the show. Lunch will be served at the Arbor Restaurant from 11:30 a.m. with seating between 11:00 a.m. and 11:30 a.m.. Afterward, enjoy the 2:00 p.m. performance. Seating is limited for the luncheon.

Born and raised in Northwest NJ, Jay has a degree in Communications and has had a life-long interest in local radio and various styles of music.
